The Prayer Shawl Ministry was created as a way to care for others while combining members of the ministry’s love for knitting and crocheting. This prayerful ministry reaches out to those people in need of support and comfort, as well as an acknowledgment of the celebration in one’s life.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry was established at Transfiguration Church in October 2005, with the concurrence of Father Lucian and the international Shawl Ministry. The shawl patterns are all copyrighted bearing specific patterns of stitches of “three”, which were selected as symbolic of planting peace, healing love, comfort and hope.
The Transfiguration Shawl Ministry meets monthly, but the knitting and crocheting are typically completed at each individual member’s home. Each shawl is created with prayers and blessings for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the project and the finished shawls are prayed over by all members prior to being given as a gift from our parish.
The Transfiguration Shawl Prayer Ministry has donated well over 65 shawls to the sick, caregivers and as a way to comfort people after a significant loss in their life. In addition, shawls have been donated to those individuals in recovery, entering a new ministry, parishioners relocating from our parish due to failing health and as a gift to our Twinning Parish representatives.
