Our confirmation usually takes place as part of the 8th grade year of religious education, with the prerequisite of having already completed the previous levels of catechesis and/or parrochial education. For further information, please contact the Religious Education Office at (914) 631-2380.
Confirmation this year is on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10:30am. Prior to this date, there are a few requirements that must be met in order for the confirmandi to be accepted for confirmation. To help you to fulfill these requirements, I have outlined them on the back of this page. If you have any questions regarding these requirements, I refer you to your confirmation teacher.
In addition to the schedule, there are other expectations that are part of every Catholic sacramental formation program, including our own:
MASS ATTENDANCE: please remember confirmandi must attend Mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation, especially as this is a fundamental practice of our faith. Jesus Christ established the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and as St. Paul explained in his first letter to the Corinthians, this is how the early Church continued to celebrate the Mass as the vital way of experiencing Christ and learning and sharing our faith. Our weekend Mass times at Transfiguration are Saturday at 5:00pm and Sunday at 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12:00pm. Please join us for worship.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: The Church teaches that we Christians should prepare our souls for the reception of Christ in the other sacraments by receiving first the sacrament of reconciliation. The eighth-grade teacher will work with you in choosing a date to go to confession. In addition to Saturday afternoons before the 5:00pm Mass, Monday, April 10, 2023 will be the Lenten Reconciliation Day, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, and you may choose to go to confession on that day.
All confirmandi are expected to go to confession at least once before June 3, 2023.
SACRAMENTAL FEES: This is simply a reminder that there is a $150 fee per student to pay for the various materials used in the sacramental preparation program. Many of you have already paid this fee, but for those who still have not done so, please take care of this as quickly as possible. If you have difficulty covering this cost, please let us know, so that we may help you.
PAPERWORK: Please send a copy of the confirmandi’s baptismal certificate to our religious education office. You may drop off a hard copy to our parish office, or you may e-mail a scanned or photo version to [email protected]. Please make sure that whatever copy you send is legible.
We require this information in order to forward your confirmation information to your church of baptism, where all of your sacramental records are also maintained. We ask for a copy of the baptismal certificate to ensure that we are sending the information to the correct church.
DRESS CODE: Please remember that this is a festive and formal religious occasion in which the confirmandi present themselves before the bishop as young adults. Sponsors also present themselves as representatives of the Church. So please dress in a way that is appropriate to situation, that is, modest formal clothing for a stately celebration that is also comfortable for a June day.
CONFIRMATION SPONSORS: The Church wants people who are good and living examples of faith, and so confirmandi are to choose people who fulfill the following requirements:
